Day 4 with the Resound 65.
Howdy, so ....at 65 years old, in my 50th year of playing, and trying and (failing) to wrangle the wild bronco that is the music business, my mind and heart and spirit have reached a place of peace with what I do with my music. That is, to keep doing what I originally set out to do. Play traditional country music! Just better, as best as I can. What is traditional Country music? For me, it involves specific instrumentation, certain subject matter in the songs lyric, a choice of meter and tempo involving 3/4, 4/4, 6/8 or 2/4 timing. Bass and drums are laid back in the mix, vocals are front and center, always! (Country fans want to receive the message ,because country fans attend church, and this is like church for them, so keep the singing up front!) Lace the singing with a fiddle, not violin, pedalsteel guitar, piano, and a Telecaster, or a big old Gibson ES of some sort. Harmonies with vocals!...wow if you have access to singers you are really set up for some wonderful moments in your future. I encourage new players of the steel and seasoned old timers like myself ,to please be patient with yourself while you are on this journey with your pedal steel. Your mind, fingers, arms and legs are all doing a choreographed dance together to produce a musical thought. And you are asking your back to never cry out in pain while reaching for this goal! Celebrate the little advancements and give thanks for the big ones. We chose an instrument that was not usually front and center, but dang, you can always tell when we're around right?! Emmons guitar co. has more than recognized the effort it takes to play this axe to get music from it by making products of exceptional quality to enhance your playing and give you confidence to go to the next step in your head full of,( I wanna learn that lick!) I am getting ready to post some of my playing to give you an example of what I'm speaking of. Until then , be blessed!
