The ReSound'65® Sacred is packed with features that make this series unique, bringing the full Emmons experience into reach without compromise. It’s built for players who are looking for more than just a pedal steel guitar, they want simplicity, unique character, and deep connection.
The E7th tuning was birthed by pioneers of Sacred Steel in gospel music music and has spanned into blues, gospel, country, rock and funk genres. The tuning is ideal for lead fills, strumming and framing expressions, played from the soul and spirit of the artist.
SACRED STEEL
AMBASSADORS
Sacred Steel is a gospel music tradition featuring electric steel guitar, originating in the 1930s within African American Pentecostal churches, particularly the House of God and Church of the Living God. Pioneered by musicians like Willie Eason and Lorenzo Harrison, the instrument replaced organs to lead lively worship services, becoming an integral part of church life. Emmons was part of this tradition through players like Glenn Lee and others. The tradition has extended beyond the walls of the church and has spanned into other contexts. Emmons Guitar Company honors the enduring legacy of Sacred Steel, and is proud to contribute to the rich and powerful heritage of this tradition. We have joined forces with Roosevelt Collier in developing the ReSound'65 platform especially for Sacred Steel and the E7th tuning. Emmons is proud to partner with players of the Sacred Steel community, and welcome those seeking this incredible experience. This is a dedicated series of guitars that focus on the tuning, configuration, hardware, and tone of our Sacred Steel instrument with unique features that set it apart from the rest.
We have the privilege of working with some of the most exceptional people in the business! Two artist that helped on our Sacred Steel journey are Roosevelt Collier, and DaShawn Hickman. Our journey began with Roosevelt Collier back in 2022 at Bridgestone Arena when he needed emergency service work on another steel guitar. Shortly after that we joined forces around concepts, prototype ideation, road testing, and configuration for the Emmons ReSound'65 Sacred Series. The 5X Grammy Nominated Steel Guitarist was born into a family with rich pioneering heritage in Sacred Steel and is continuing the legacy today. He is a transcendent talent on the ReSound'65 Sacred, as well as the lap steel, all while doing a stellar job as the Music Director and Band Leader for JellyRoll. DaShawn Hickman joined the effort by road testing a typical ReSound'65 that we converted into a Sacred Steel. His strategic collaboration and feedback has been a tremendous asset throughout the process, and we appreciate his statesmanship as a brand ambassador. Dashawn is one of the foremost contemporary practitioners of Sacred Steel and was inducted into the Sacred Steel Hall of Fame in 2023. DaShawn picked up the instrument at the age of five, and in his teens, formed a group with three of his cousins that found fame as The Allen Boys, North Carolina’s only touring Sacred Steel band. He played the ReSound'65 Sacred while performing with Cirque du Soleil, and Steve Ray Ladson, a AGT finalist.
